Introduction We are traveling to look at logical empiricist philosophy ( logical positivism ) in this unit. This metatheory/philosophy consists of three subdivisions. viz. lingual analysis. logical symbolism and empiricist philosophy ( see RW [ Rethinking our universe? we will utilize the abbreviation throughout the usher ] p 16 ) . ACTIVITY 1a Logical empiricist philosophy has two basic thoughts: logic and empiricist philosophy. Without looking in a lexicon. seek to explicate what you think these words mean: â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢ ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . ACTIVITY 1b Now get the lexicon and compose down the definitions you get from it: â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . 3 EDC1015/1 â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . â⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â ¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦Ã¢â¬ ¦ . We give concept elucidations as we work through this unit. and explicate the three points of position included in logical empiricist philosophy. Briefly. a logical thought is an thought that can be defined exactly. A sentence is logically true if its truth can be determined by an entreaty to the significance of words and its grammatical construction. Empiricism claims that a statement is through empirical observation true if the truth can be determined through sense experience. OVERVIEW Logical positivism thrived during the early portion of the twentieth century. particularly in Britain and the USA. The chief aim in this metatheory is to rehearse scientific discipline every bit objectively as possible. and to seek and verify all statements. The point of going was that personal values. which are subjective. are non of import plenty to include in research undertakings. Valuess are regarded as meaningless. seeing that one can non verify them. It is proposed that if the research object can non be proved to be right or incorrect. it is non researchable. Emotions like hope. fright. love. spiritual beliefs and political committedness are seen as non of import. because they can non be measured and checked in the same manner scientific statements can be checked. Plato was the first philosopher who tried to acquire people to believe clearly. Read more about his positions in RW P 7. We are now traveling to discourse the three chief divisions of logical empiricist philosophy or positivism. Linguistic analysis ( RW pp 9à ±11 ) The history of lingual analysis is discussed on P 10 of RW. It is proposed that the chief purpose in lingual analysis is to unclutter our heads of all words that muddle us and confound the scientific endeavor. You can read a batch about the significance of words in pp 1à ±7 in RW. An illustration of a statement that would be useable in lingual analysis could be: ââ¬Å"Metal expands when heatedâ⬠. This sort of statement would be meaningless in lingual analysis. The general advantages and disadvantages of utilizing lingual analysis are on p 10 of RW. Logical symbolism ( RW pp 11à ±13 ) Factual and logical statements are of import in logical symbolism. A factual statement would be something like ââ¬Å"It is raining outsideâ⬠. This statement can be proved right or incorrect. Factual statements are different from value statements in the sense that they can non be proved right or incorrect ( see pages 12à ±13 in RW ) . Valuess are something of import to you personally. However. values do non suit the believing paradigm of logical positivism. because there is no scientific elucidation for values. Objective truth is of importance in this frame of mention. and subjective truth is seen as less important. Mathematical statements are logical statements. eg 2 + 2 = 4. Empiricism ( RW pp 13à ±16 ) 5 EDC1015/1 The Shorter Oxford Dictionary defines empiricist philosophy as ââ¬Å"the theory that regards experience as the lone beginning of knowledgeâ⬠. Define exactly what the different cultural/religious groups in the state see as divorce. Find statistics already done on the topic. Get a sample from the population to analyze. Draw up carefully worded questionnaires APPLICATION IN PRACTICE This manner of believing frequently reduces human existences to strictly physical beings ( a spot like workss and rats in a research lab ) . Research workers who study human existences through the theoretical model mentioned above are convinced that they can happen out why people behave in a certain mode. These scientists believe that they can command human behavior. This manner of thought is particularly portion of the theory of behaviorism. Logical empiricist philosophy gave rise to this theory. The theory of behaviorism claims that human existences are wholly physical ; that our heads are no more 6 than our encephalons and that our encephalons are merely complex electronic devices like computing machines. This ââ¬Å"computerâ⬠receives input from the universe around us and so responds to this input? its response is our behavior. The theory of behaviorism is associated with three people in peculiar. viz. IP Pavlov. BF Skinner and J Watson. Pavlov was the research worker who performed the well-known experiments with Canis familiariss. analyzing stimulation and response reactions known as ââ¬Å"unconditioned behaviourâ⬠. This theory can be applied with great success in learning and preparation. The basic intent of human scientific disciplines is to work out jobs by altering peopleââ¬â¢s behaviors. With positive ( wages ) and negative ( ââ¬Å"punishmentâ⬠) support. one gets consequences. Aims are of import in order to acquire consequences. Critical rationalism emphasises the importance of clear thought and the request of inquiries. The drive force behind critical thought is reason. that is. the preparedness to larn from errors and false theories. OVERVIEW Socrates was one of the first philosophers who challenged thoughts and beliefs. and he encouraged his pupils to make the same. Critical rationalism as a doctrine. nevertheless. is a twentieth century doctrine. The history of critical rationalism is on p 22 of RW. Karl Popper was the most of import protagonist of critical rationalism in the twentieth century. Critical positivists believe that cipher starts scientific research with a clean head. One ever starts off with theories or thoughts in head that one needs to prove for falseness ( read scenarios 1. 2 and 3 in RW pp 21à ±22 ) . Harmonizing to Popper. we can happen that a statement is decidedly false. but non that it is decidedly true. This is known as the ââ¬Å"principle of falsificationâ⬠. We normally try to turn out something incorrect in critical rationalism by utilizing the test and mistake method. ACTIVITY 2c Questioning is truly of import in critical rationalism. Many people do non oppugn things. Peoples by and large accept what spiritual curates tell them. what the documents say and what advertizements tell them to believe. Even consumers do non like to kick? they accept severely made goods and hapless service. Make you hold or non? Read pp 22à ±23 in RW for a sum-up of critical rationalism. The whole purpose of critical rationalism is to do certain we do non come to 10 believe in an thought that is false. Harmonizing to critical positivists. it is merely by proving our thoughts utilizing the most rigorous trials that we can get down to come on in our cognition. The rule of inquiring inquiries and of disproof makes critical rationalism a really open-minded. antidogmatic and anti-authoritarian doctrine. It is merely in unfastened societies that jobs are discussed and solved through the free exchange of thoughts. Critical positivists claim that values. like scientific finds. must be unfastened to debate. We must be prepared to hold our values challenged ( read pp 24à ±26 in RW about values in critical rationalism ) . If we are non prepared to react to these sorts of challenges. we do non back up the rule of an unfastened society and democracy. Critical positivists are bitterly opposed to regimes that silence and intimidate people. Values guide scientific research. but scientific discipline and objectiveness should be used to analyze our values. Valuess that are of import in scientific research would for case be honesty. dependability and truthfulness. If the people making the research are non honorable and dependable. the research consequences will be nonmeaningful and frequently even untrue. The advantages and disadvantages of adopting critical rationalism are given on p 27 of RW. PROBLEMS RESEARCHED IN CRITICAL RATIONALISM Scientists. in critical rationalism. are said to get down their research by seeking to turn out bing theories or research false. In fact. we all do this as we go through life. We grow up believing certain things ( normally what our parents. instructors or spiritual leaders have told us ) . The experiences we have in life so state us whether these beliefs and traditions are true or false. Most people modify their beliefs as they grow older. Most of us. including scientists. happen things out by test and mistake. In scientific discipline we will speak about a hypothesis that we check against world to happen out whether it is incorrect. The difference between scientific statements and nonscientific statements is that scientific statements can be proved incorrect ; nonscientific statements can non be proved incorrectly. If scientists start inquiring ââ¬Å"why? â⬠so they start seeking for the reply to their inquiry. For case. why does a rock autumn to the land if I let it travel? Why make some people win in concern while others fail? Why do some directors get the best out of their staff while others provoke ill will and bitterness? Why make some people work more efficaciously than others? All these ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠inquiries need some explaining. Harmonizing to critical rationalism. the purpose of scientific discipline is to happen satisfactory accounts? we do this by seeking to reject that which is false and so happen a more acceptable account. Peoples frequently do non reason in a rational manner. and so their accounts will be unacceptable/unsatisfactory. 11 EDC1015/1 ACTIVITY 2d The categorization of assorted types of false statements can be found on pp 27à ±29 in RW. Globalization - Essay Example Globalization also allows businesses to take up cost cutting measures by outsourcing production to countries where they can avail the benefits of cheaper labor, raw material, equipment, processing etc. that being said, operating in an international market also poses a number of threats some of the major ones being compliance to laws of specific countries of operations and increased competition For example, Nike outsourced its production to Asia and was criticized greatly for not considering the significant amount of child labor used in the factories there. Thus, the need have a strategic competitive edge is imperative for success in this era of globalization. For governments, globalization is seen as a threat as well as an opportunity. On one hand it hampers the growth of local industries and adds the aspect of uncertainty to the economic construct of a country. This is why many countries make it difficult for foreign companies to enter and operate in the home country, as a measure to protect their local industries to promote self-sufficiency For example; China has restrictive import policies so that the local industry does not suffer as a result of increasing trade. On the up side, globalization opens doors to trade and investment, boosting the economy (Imf.org). It also allows greater consumer power of choice and the influx of foreign business helps in the development of technology and communication locally. Lastly, it helps in countries to maintain positive relationships with each other, contributing to world peace and regional harmony like the trade relationship between US and European Union aimed at bringing both regions together th rough trade. This study is then conducted in order to identify possible ways in which eBay can remedy its market position in China. Several important studies have been conducted to compare Taobao with companies such as eBay in order to identify the success factors of the former. One such study has been conducted by Chen et al. (2007). According to the outcome of this investigation, three main factors have differentiated Taobao from its American counterpart, and been responsible for the success of the former. The first factor is that Chinaââ¬â¢s C2C (consumer to consumer) market is young and experience-seeking. The customers are price sensitive, in concomitance

Learning Team Reflection Essay Example for Free
Learning Team Reflection Essay With the advancement of technology and the rise in Internet usage amongst individual companies, businesses, and organizations, they are faced with new challenges in protecting their brand, trademark, and image from competitors (Clark, 2007). This has caused many businesses to take action in the protection of intellection property rights or IPR. For the week three assignment, the members of team A choose to discuss the case in which Premier Technologies wins intellectual property lawsuit. This paper would highlight details of the case. Doug Sayer, the owner of Premier Technologies, claimed that two of his former employees stole private information for trade secret infringement and future sabotage. The former men were members of top management at Premier Technologies. Orr and Schutte, the two men, downloaded the organizations insider information to external hard drivers, and shortly after that, left the organization to work for the competitor. According to Legal information Institute, Trade Secret is defined as the information, including a formula, pattern, compilation, program, device, method, technique, or process that derives independent economic value or potential, from not being generally known to or readily ascertainable through appropriate means by other persons who might obtain economic value from its disclosure or use. The issue is that Orr and Schutte had an intentional plan to use the operations of Premier Technologies against them to make the organization fall into the red and sale for a price less than what the business is worth. In Bannock County, Idahos Sixth Judicial District in December 2011 ruled in favor of Premier Technologies in the lawsuit Premier Technologies v. Chadd Orr, Jeff Schutte and Petersen, Inc. Doug Sayer, also Premier Technologys president and chief operating officer, argued that Chadd Orr and Jeff Schutte was conspiring with Peterson. This made Orr and Schutte breach their fiduciary duties that they owed to Premier Technology while they were high level managers at Premier Technologies. The jury unanimously voted in favor of Premier Technologies and agreed that both Orr and Schutte violated the Idaho Trade Secret Act, and that they both had a fiduciary relationship withà Premier. The jury also ruled in favor of Premier, implicating Petersen Inc. had, in fact, conspired with Orr and Schutte in breaching of their fiduciary responsibility to Premier Technologies. The ruling awarded a little over two million dollars to Premier Technologies. A $905,250 judgment was set against Schutte, while a $603,500 judgment against Orr was set for breaching their fiduciary duties. Punitive damages were awarded as such $172,000 against Schutte and $120,000 against Orr. The analysis of the case appears to be quite simple in nature. The courts decision ultimately stems from Orr and Schuttes fiduciary responsibilities that they owed to Premier during their employment with the company. The copy of protected data was not in itself the infraction, but when that information was subsequently provided to a direct competitor, an illegal activity had taken place and the two men were liable for their actions. The state laws of Idaho clearly protected Premier, and any business entity, from this form of intellectual property theft. It also awards that company money to satisfy the damages that were caused by these actions, and because of the intentional nature of the act, punitive damages were made possible as well. As there are often no formal means to protect the trade secrets that a company might have in their processes, litigation is sometimes the best option and, in this case, it certainly provided Premier with the chance to recoup their losses. As a future employee hiring procedure, it might be pertinent for Sayer to include an employee clause that gives up their right to work for a direct competitor in the future, as some highly competitive organizations do (Idaho State Journal). Through many trials and errors, laws have come to pass to protect each business from employees who wish to harm them. Orr and Schutte not only jeopardized Premier Technologyââ¬â¢s operation, but they also jeopardized their integrity. Once they decided to work with a competitor, they stole valuable information from the Plaintiff in order to make the business fail. Their actions turned into a lawsuit that determined they breached their contract with Premier Technologies. Due to this infringement, both parties and competitor were liable for all damages incurred to Premier Technologies. For Premier Technologies to prevent this from happening again, they shouldà determine if a clause is needed to prevent employees from working with the competitor. Reference Clark, D. (2007). Performance Management Reality Check Essay -- Business, Goals, Functi
How many of the 14 characteristics of an ideal system are present in the system you are evaluating? The Women's Resource Center at Southern Oregon University is currently using a performance management system that I believe has present all 14 characteristics. As a small organization doing work that is at many levels personal, our performance management system is one of the most highly held processes of our jobs. Our work at the Women's Resource Center calls for us to express ourselves, voice our opinions and beliefs, stand up and fight for change, and engage in our work emotionally. Due to the level at which we hold our jobs close to our hearts, evaluating our performance and gaining feedback on the work we are doing is extremely important not only for our management but also for the employees. Our individual goals must be aligned with organizational goals. As the goal of our work is to improve the lives of women and girls, our organization would not function if individual goals were anything other than that exactly. Our work is deeply rooted in the passion and motivation of the employees and volunteers involved regarding this goal. We are working as activists who are seeking and creating change and see no limits to the differences we can make personally in our community, region, and even globally. (Aguinis, 2009) The system is thorough as each employee is evaluated every school term and all major job responsibilities are included in the evaluation. There are three steps to the system. The first step is a self evaluation form that is filled out by the employee and acts as a tool for self-reflection. The second step is an informal evaluation with the staff manager. The final step is the formal evaluation with the coordinat... ... bad idea to have a process laid out. For our system to become more ideal we should develop a rating system that minimizes subjective aspects and does not rely so heavily of human judgement. We should also develop an appeals process that is formal in which employee that feel an error has been made may be able to challenge unjust decisions and correct errors. (Aguinis, 2009) I believe that the managers and the coordinator should work together to develop the appeals process and then bring the process to the staff to gather opinions, and feedback. I believe that the coordinator knows best how the process would be more efficient and effective but I would also want to hear from the staff to make sure the process makes sense and is accessible from their perspective. This is a process that really needs to work on both ends of the organization for it to be effective.

Inventory Management: Types of Inventory Essay
Introduction Inventory is defined as a stock or store of goods .generally speaking, inventory can be divided by two types: independent demand and dependent demand, independent demand is kind of demand which is no need to rely others types of item they are ordered by the external customers or manufacturer for stock and sale. If one type of inventory depends upon another item, take the example of car. The car as finished goods is as independent demand item, while the raw materials and components used in the manufacture of the finished Goods. The number of goods depends on the types of the firm. If the firm is a manufacturer, it must maintain some inventory of raw materials and work-in-process in order to keep the factory operating. In addition, finishedgoods are another necessary inventory for the firm to meet the customers who need the goods suddenly. The firm which has enough inventories to satisfy customer is a goodevaluation for the firmââ¬â¢s standard and itsstability, italso is a good way to save the costs of production fee. There are 8 types of inventories: buffer inventory, de-coupling inventory anticipation inventory, pipeline inventory raw materials, partially completed goods and maintenance inventory and in-transmit goods inventory. I will use an example as a cart factory with four types of inventories and it will be raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods and maintenance tools. Body Raw materials Raw materialsare one of the inventory items that are used in the manufacturerââ¬â¢s conversion process to produce the semi-completive goods and finished productsTypically, raw materials are the things such as ore, grain, minerals, petroleum, chemicals, paper, wood, paint, steel, and food items.cart is kind of old tools using for transfer goods, because it can saving the cost of the production, and the electric cart can be using as a vehicle, so what is the comments of the cart Consider an example of a rolling cart. This cart consists of a top that is pressed from a sheet of steel, a frame formed from four steel bars, and a leg assembly consisting of four legs, rolled from sheet steel, each with a caster attached, so even one componentââ¬â¢sof cartcannot be made of without any types of materials. And if the firm buy large amount of quantity ,the factory which provide the raw materials for the firm may use ââ¬Å"quantity discount modelâ⬠, it will bring the benefit both factory and the firm Thefigure below showsus the cost that the firm charges for the customers from different period: From the figure that we can know: If the ordering quantity is less than or equal to Q1 then purchase price is Cp1. If the ordering quantity is more than Q1 and less than Q2 then purchase price is Cp2. If the ordering quantity is greater than or equal to Q2 then purchase price is Cp3. But this figurecannot show us a continuous total cost curve, because the annual purchase cost breaks at two places namely at Q1 and Q2.It means the more quantities customer order, the total cost is lower, this model achieve the economy of scale the benefit achieved through economy of scale that he wants to pass it onto customer. The how a firm saves the money and how much it can save, thecalculation below briefly shows the process: Thefirm decides to order the logs from the factory, and the ordering size is Lot-For-Lot.supposing they order annual demand is 1500units per year, holding cost is $30 per unit per year, ordering cost is $50 unit per year, and if order less than80 units the cost will be $55 per unit, however. If the firm orders more 70 or equal to 70 will be $52.5 per unit.According the EOQ calculation, firmââ¬â¢s order demand around 707 units.so the firm only need toordering10 more units will get $2.5 per unit. So the total holding ordering, and item costs for the year=ï ¼ËQ/2ï ¼â°H+(D/Q)+DP, according this formula, if the firm buy 80 units, the total cost will be $83571.42,if the firm buy 80 units, the total cost will be $79968.75,it means the firm can save $3602.67.So it is the effect from the ââ¬Å"quantity discount modelâ⬠Work-in-process Work-in-process also can calledpartially completed goods, or subassemblies that are no longer part of the raw materials inventory and not yet part of thefinished products, it is hard to calculate amount of partially completed goods, so it is time wasted and some part of production cost is also put in the partially completed goods, however, it is also a process that almost all the firm use to decide the amount of the finished goods. Actually, when many type of accessories and clothing produce by the factory they always need many processes to do, so all the partially completed goods will appear in the process, the picture of shoes factory are operating their workobviously, this is a conveyorsystem which is use to producing the sole, and it is working automatically, it means this factory is using the batch process. This process can make Jobs set up so they can be run to completion without manual intervention, so all input data are preselected through scripts, command-line parameters, or job control language. Unlike interactive processing that prompts the human user for a command, batch processing stores up several tasks and executes them while the computer is idle. This frees up memory for more exhaustive programs and speeds up productivity. But how the system work is? One system need one set of data files as input data, and then it can produce one set of output data, and the input data are collected and are processed into the diagram. There is no doubt that using batch process can bring some benefits to the shoes factory, first of all, it can deduce the waste of time, â⬠time wasteâ⬠is a costly problem, however ,the factory still hard to avoid this problem, howeverâ⬠batch processâ⬠is a good way to maintain the time, and it also avoid the worker supervision minute-by-minute. Finished goods Finished goods are completely manufactured products and they are ready to sale and send to the market .For example, clothing, computer is kind of finished goods, however, like orange apple cannot count into finish food, although it can sale to the customers. In order to explain finished good more clearly, I will use an example with ABC classification. ABC classification is a ranking system to identifying how useful and importance of those inventories for achieving business goals. The picture above are showing the exactly figure that how many percentage they have on both stock items and total inventory value. A refers to a very important inventory; it means the products will be high value but little stock refers to moderately important inventory, so all percentage of items and the products of value are balance. C refers to least important inventory, it means the products may be just hold the low value but the firm holds so many stocks about it. Normally, ABC classification system is used by the firm to controlling their inventories, forexample, one firm they are selling electronic products, and they want to saving the space so that they have to set the number of different types of inventory they want to keep, in order to saving the holding cost. Television is a high value product, so maybe not all the customers will buy it, and it is not always need from the customers, so it can put in the A level of classification. And now still have so many customers enjoying to buy PSP and mp4 to reach their entertainment purpose ,this kind of productââ¬â¢s value is medium, however. The firm may consider put these more than the products like television and computers, because the price is cheaper, so it will have more customers buy it with less consideration. And the C classification can related to the products like the mouse and keyboard, because of the cheap price, so many people willing to buying it without consideration.so in order to prevent the ââ¬Å"stock out conditions, the firms will holding a lot of the inventory, in other words, this firm have safety stock which is held in excess of expect demand due to variable rate and lead time. Although it will increase the holding cost, however, it will bring the benefit for the firm, once the firm purchase a lot from the suppliers, it will get the discounts, so it can save the cost of productionand this firm has enough inventories, it can satisfy the customers and meet their requirement levels. Maintenance inventory Maintenance inventory is a type of special inventory which is not for sale. Why the firms need to keep there kind of inventory? These kinds of inventories always refer to something like the machine which is using to produce the raw materials. Normally the firm can exchange their goods with the suppliers when shelf life of the item expired, however, from the research we knows that only 50% of the organizations polled in a survey allowed maintenance any controls over their inventory, so finally they have to maintain the spoil or expiry inventory by their internal politics. So theywill prepared some machines to incase the machines are spoil when they are doing their work. And how are the firms going to controlling their maintenance inventory? Historical model is a good choice, historical system is a method of distributed smart client software construction and it is based on a model of software behavior as a graph of partially ordered facts. From the graph we can knows that how the historical system work, first of all, the firm will put the previous conversation and messageââ¬â¢s figure as input data, and the machine can record and do the same work at the next time, for example, the gift card system is become common and normal in our daily life, we only know that is anautomatic machine, however, how is that work? The first step is to identify changes. The second steps is to refine changes, it means normally all the customer will not all have a same action, so the people who set the gift card figure, they also need to think of all the impossible condition as input data and type them in. The third step is to query the model, ask questions till the gift card machine can reply it correctly, and the fourth step is to repeat step one, two, three. Compare with the traditional models, The advantages of historical system are history makes a number of operations easy that are difficult when dealing with state, the historical model can recognizing and resolving conflicts between two parties, caching and synchronizing changes, and durably transmitting messages all become simple operations. Conclusion Inventory is use to achieving satisfaction level of customer service and keeping the inventory costs within the reasonable level. A successful company will have their effective inventory management, first of all, the company should have a complete system to keep track of inventory and the firm will have a reliable forecast of demand and reasonable estimate of holding costs, ordering costs and shortage costs. And if the firm have the classification inventories, what kind of benefit will bring to then, smoothing production requirements and decouple operations, in order to saving the cost of the workers. Safety stock is a strategy that a firm will use it to protect against stock out conditions. All most all the firm will keep inventory, because it can not only save the costs, but also it is convenient way, the firm can take advantage of order cycles, they no need to order the stocks so frequently, and it also can help hedge against price increase, and the most easy way is to take advantage of quality discounts, it is mean that the firm buy a large amount of inventory, normallythe suppliers always can give discounts when the firm buy the large amount of raw materials, and sometimes it can have another kind of conditions, maybe when the firm store the inventory and after that the price will increase, and because the firm already have the enough stocks, so it is another way to saving the cost of the products. Anyway inventory management is an important lesson for the firm Reference * E notes: Inventory types, available at http://www.enotes.com/inventory-types-reference/inventory-types, view on 29/01/2013 * Inventory models, available at http://cde.annauniv.edu/CourseMat/mba/sem2/dba1651/im.html,view on 29/01/2013 * Types of inventories: independent and dependent demand, available at http://www.managementstudyguide.com/types-of-inventories.htm.view on 31/01/2013 * Accounting tools, available at http://www.accountingtools.com/dictionary-work-in-process-inv,view on 31/01/2013 * From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia,02/02/2013 ,Batch process, Available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batch_processing,view on 03/02/2013 * By terry wireman available at http://reliabilityweb.com/index.php/articles/maintenance_inventory_and_purchasing/,view on 03/02/2013 * Michael L Perry, 03/30/2009, what is historical modeling available at http://historicalmodeling.com/book/,view on 04/02/2013
